ABSTRACT
Influence of anti-pollination nets on climatic factors and productivity in mandarins. Mandarins have become the most
demanded citrus fruits due to their excellent organoleptic characteristics, ease of peeling, and attractive size. However, one of the
quality requirements that most determine its commercialization is the absence of seeds. The use of nets has become the most effective
method to avoid the presence of seeds, as it prevents the passage of bees and cross-pollination. However, it should be considered that
the nets can favorably or negatively influence the development and productivity of the plant. To determine the influence of different
types of nets on climatic factors, productivity, and fruit quality in mandarins, three netting systems (complete netting, removable
netting, and tunnel) were evaluated for three seasons. Under the conditions of this study, both netting systems can increase the total
productivity, with removable netting having the highest proportion of sizes for export, but it should be considered that there may be
a slight delay in the development of color and degradation of acidity. Both quality factors can be improved by managing the vigor of
the tree. The tunnel tends to reduce productivity by between 10 to 30%. The lower productivity would be associated with the lower
efficiency of the applications of gibberellic acid to increase fruit set due to the physical impediment produced by the net and the
greater abortion of fruitlets due to the friction that the net exerts on these structures.
